Bloodlines & Houses · Era IV, Mystic Falls, 1864
The Founders’ Council
Mystic Falls' founding families — Salvatore, Gilbert, Fell, Forbes, Lockwood — organised as a vampire-hunting council, dosed the town's drinks with vervain, and rounded up twenty-seven vampires to burn in a church. Their descendants inherit the Council, the ledger, and a truly world-class capacity for denial.
Details
- The Gilbert device, the vervain supply and half the town's secrets all date from this.
- A century and a half later the Council is still meeting, still burning things, and still headed by people whose own children are vampires.
- The five founding families: Salvatore, Gilbert, Fell, Forbes and Lockwood. Every modern protagonist descends from one of them.
- The Gilbert device — built by Johnathan Gilbert with Emily Bennett's magic — incapacitates every vampire and werewolf in range, which is how the town discovers the Lockwoods are wolves. Witches are unaffected.
- Sheriff Liz Forbes runs the Council in the modern day while her own daughter is a vampire, which she eventually accepts.
