Nature’s Balance

the one law

The rule the entire universe runs on: nature permits no imbalance. Every immortality gets a cure. Every curse gets a loophole. Every shortcut generates a shadow. Doppelgängers, the cure, the Five, the white oak, the sireline rule — none of these are villains' inventions. They are corrections.

Details

  • It is also the writers' honest engine: whenever a character gets too powerful, the balance clause supplies the counterweight.
  • The one thing nature never balances is grief, which is why almost every catastrophe in this story starts with a funeral.
  • Stated most plainly by Qetsiyah herself: "nature demands balance." Every writer in the franchise uses it as a licence to invent a counterweight whenever they need one.
  • It explains why the cure exists, why white oak exists, why doppelgängers exist, why the Five exist, and why every prison always has a door.
