Origins & Immortals · Era I, The First Immortals
The Cure
Qetsiyah made exactly one dose of a cure for immortality and entombed it with Silas. The cruelty is in the design: to escape starvation he would have to take it, become mortal, die — and land on the Other Side with her, forever, instead of finding peace with Amara.
Details
- One dose exists at a time, and it travels by blood: whoever drinks a cured person's blood soon enough gets it next.
- Its route through the story: buried with Silas → forced on Katherine in 2013 → Silas → Amara → a second dose recovered out of the 1994 prison world → Elena → Stefan → Damon.
- Taking it does not undo the years, but it does hold them: Katherine only starts ageing five centuries in weeks once Silas drinks the cure back out of her blood.
- It does not simply remove immortality; it removes the supernatural entirely. A cured vampire is human, ages normally, and can never be turned again by the same blood.
- Silas is cured by drinking Katherine's blood after she takes it, which is how Stefan is finally able to kill him.
- In the series finale Stefan is cured first, then transfers it to Damon through his own blood — his last act before walking into the hellfire.
