The Ripper
The younger Salvatore brother, turned in 1864 after his father shot him for protecting Katherine Pierce. His first feed was on that father. Human blood switches him into a compulsive, escalating killer who dismembers his victims and then reassembles them out of guilt, and he has spent every decade since managing that with varying success. He is also, coincidentally and not coincidentally at all, Silas's doppelgänger.
He comes to Mystic Falls in 2009 because a girl there has Katherine's face. He spends eight seasons being the person everyone else's plot happens to, is thrown into a quarry in a safe for three months, is turned into Cade's collector, is cured, and then walks into the hellfire to close Hell — human only until he passes the cure to Damon, and a vampire again the instant he does, which is what lets him compel his brother away.
Details
- Klaus compelled his humanity off in 1922 and again in 2011 and kept him as a companion, which is the most intimate and most horrifying thing Klaus does to anyone.
- Lexi spent decades pulling him back from the ripper and is killed by Damon four episodes after she appears.
- He gives Damon the cure and the human life the two of them spent 145 years arguing about, and then dies.
- Valerie Tulle was his first love, in 1863, and was pregnant with his child.
