The sheriff's daughter, insecure and overlooked, used by Damon Salvatore as a food source in the first season and turned into a vampire in the second by Katherine — as a message. What she does with it is the show's most complete character arc: she becomes the most competent, most organised and most morally intact vampire in Mystic Falls, and the person everyone else calls when the plan fails.
She carries Alaric and Jo's twins after Jo is murdered, marries Stefan Salvatore hours before he dies, and co-founds a school for supernatural children with the money of a thousand-year-old hybrid who has been in love with her since 2011. She ends the franchise as its headmistress.
