Bloodlines & Houses
Alaric Saltzman
Ric
He came to Mystic Falls hunting the vampire who took his wife Isobel and stayed as a history teacher, a drinking companion and the closest thing the teenagers have to a functional adult. He is killed and resurrected repeatedly by a Gilbert ring, which slowly breaks his mind, and in 2012 Esther turns him into an Enhanced Original Vampire — a vampire engineered to wipe out vampires, briefly the most dangerous being alive, undone by the fact that his life is linked to Elena's.
Afterwards he catalogues the Armory, marries Jo Laughlin, loses her at the wedding, and becomes the father of twin siphoner witches. He spends the last decade of the franchise running a school and failing to break a Gemini tradition that will kill one of his daughters.
Details
- He carries the franchise across all three shows more than any other character.
- His weapons — vervain darts, wooden bullets, the Gilbert ring — are the reason humans are ever a threat at all.
