The Mystic Falls Codex

Alaric and Jo's daughter, carried by Caroline Forbes, and named for a mother she never met. A siphoner: no magic of her own, only what she can draw out of other magical things. She spends her childhood being the easy one, absorbing everyone else's needs, and in her teens absorbs an enormous amount of dark magic and nearly destroys the school.

Her recovery is treated seriously and at length, which is unusual for this franchise and to its credit. The Merge never happens — not because anyone solves it, but because Lizzie is killed by Hope and comes back a vampire, which takes her out of the ritual entirely.
