Not Qetsiyah's own work, though it finishes her argument. In 1110 a dying witch descended from her created five supernatural hunters and burned a map into their skin — a tattoo that grows with every vampire they kill and, when complete, points to Silas and the cure. The point was to get somebody to dig him up and cure him, so he would die and land on the Other Side with her.
Details
- Killing a hunter earns the Hunter's Curse: relentless hallucinations of the people you have killed, until you kill yourself.
- Only a "potential hunter" can see the map. Jeremy Gilbert is one of the last, which is why he spends a season being marched around a table with his shirt off.
- The five in the original brotherhood, formed in 1110: Alexander, who daggered the Mikaelsons at a dinner in 1114, and four others whose line continues to modern hunters.
- Connor Jordan is the hunter who comes to Mystic Falls in 2012; Jeremy Gilbert completes the map on his own body after Connor dies.
- Professor Atticus Shane, who orchestrates most of the hunt, is working for Silas and wants his dead wife back.
- Galen Vaughn is the last living member of the brotherhood and reaches the island first.
