The Bennett Witches
Ayana, Emily, Sheila "Grams", her daughter Abby, Lucy, and Bonnie. The most powerful and most routinely sacrificed family in the franchise. Almost every spell that holds the world together across eleven seasons is either cast by a Bennett or paid for with a Bennett's life.

- Their magic is Spirit magic: drawn from nature, brokered through the dead witches who came before, and withdrawn the moment those witches disapprove.
- Grams dies opening the tomb. Abby is turned. Bonnie dies repeatedly. The pattern is the show's least examined and most obvious flaw, and Legacies eventually says so out loud.
- Sheila "Grams" Bennett dies opening the tomb in 2009 — the first of many Bennett deaths caused by a Salvatore's request.
- Abby Bennett abandoned Bonnie as a child after burying Mikael, and is later turned into a vampire, which severs her magic entirely.
- Lucy Bennett, a cousin, appears once, helps Katherine, and leaves — the only Bennett in the franchise who gets out.
- Bonnie's own count: dead or magically destroyed at least four times, and she is still the one who ends Hell.
