- The city itself is the show's fourth Mikaelson: everyone claims it, nobody keeps it, and it outlasts all of them.
- Nine covens, one vampire regime, and a wolf population living in the bayou under a curse Marcel ordered in 1991. Every season is a different configuration of the same three-way fight.
- Cami O'Connell and her uncle Kieran hold the human faction's seat, which exists mostly so someone in the story can say the obvious thing out loud.
