- They left in 1919 and did not come back for ninety years. The city did not stop being theirs; it just stopped knowing it.
- The Mikaelsons arrived in the 1700s and effectively invented the city's supernatural order: vampires rule, witches are permitted to practise under supervision, wolves are excluded.
- Klaus's rule was enforced through a compact with the human faction, later held by the O'Connell family and the church.
