The second Mikaelson son, and the one who invented "always and forever" — the promise that the family will stay together no matter what, made over Henrik's body and broken roughly once a season for a thousand years. He loved Tatia, and Katherine, and eventually Hayley, which is a pattern that repeats every five hundred years with the same face.
He is the most reasonable person in any room and also the person most likely to remove someone's heart mid-sentence, and the show never stops finding this funny. He spends centuries compelling his own worst memories out of his head. In 2018 he snaps the last white oak stake in half so that he and Klaus can run each other through at the same moment, and neither has to die alone.

- He punished Tristan de Martel by compelling him to walk into the sea over and over for centuries; Tristan ends the story doing exactly that, forever, in a locked box.
- He learns only a thousand years late that he killed Tatia himself, and that his mother hid it from him behind a compelled "red door".
