The Original Witch
A witch of the Old World, trained alongside Ayana, married to Mikael, and unable to have children until her sister Dahlia made her fertile in exchange for the firstborn of every generation of their line. She paid with Freya and hid the rest. She had an affair with a werewolf named Ansel and bore Niklaus. And when her youngest son Henrik was killed by wolves, she refused to bury another child and cast the immortality spell that created vampires.
She also bound Klaus's werewolf side to keep Mikael from killing him, and never told Klaus why he was different. Klaus killed her for it and blamed Mikael. She returns from the dead twice — in Mystic Falls and in New Orleans — both times intending to undo her own work, and neither attempt succeeds.

- Ayana warned her the spirits would not stand for it. She used Ayana's own talisman and cast anyway.
- Her second return involves trying to move her children's souls into new mortal bodies, which they consider a threat rather than a gift.
- She is the most powerful witch in the franchise's history and the most destructive person in it, and those two facts are the same fact.
