Death & Afterlives
Arcadius
Cade · the Devil
A genuine psychic of the deep BC era — the wiki puts his birth before 2200 BC and his burning before 750 BC — killed at the stake by people frightened of what he could see. He did not stop existing. His consciousness became a dimension that consumes the souls of the guilty — functionally Hell, with a proprietor who negotiates rather than damns and who keeps a ledger of everyone who owes him.
He was there for eighteen hundred years before anyone in the story noticed, and once the Other Side collapsed in 2014, his Hell is where dead supernaturals went. He is destroyed in 2017 — stabbed by Stefan Salvatore with a dagger forged from his own bone and ash — and the whole dimension is then unmade by Bonnie Bennett.
Details
- He never lies and never breaks a deal, which somehow makes him worse.
- He made Sybil and Seline immortal and sent them out to harvest souls for him.
- Hell has a physical anchor beneath Mystic Falls, which is the only reason it can be destroyed.
- Katherine Pierce inherits the throne after he dies, which is the funniest thing the show ever does.
