Bloodlines & Houses
Matt Donovan
A bartender and eventually a sheriff, and the one main character who never turns, never gets magic, and never asks for any of it. He loses his sister, his girlfriends and most of his twenties to other people's supernatural problems, and stays.
He is also a Maxwell by descent, which matters in the last season: only a Maxwell can ring the bell that opens the hellfire under Mystic Falls, and he is the one who has to do it.
Details
- He appears in all three shows, which almost nobody else manages.
- His refusal to be turned is treated by the show as the correct choice, not a failure of nerve.
