Bloodlines & Houses · Era VII, The Legacies
How It Ends
Josie and Lizzie never have to merge. Hope remains the tribrid, and what the show finally gives her is a life she has to keep living rather than an exit from it. Caroline comes home to run the school. And Klaus's last message to his daughter is the final word in the franchise — a recording Landon retrieves from Limbo, in which Klaus tells her she is his peace and that he regrets none of it.
Details
- Two thousand years from one badly cast immortality spell, and it ends with a school staying open and a father getting a recording through from the other side of death.
- Josie and Lizzie find a third option to the Merge, which is what four seasons of Alaric's research could not.
- Hope stays the tribrid and stays immortal. The loop Esther opened a thousand years earlier does not close; Hope simply agrees to keep carrying it.
- Klaus's last message is delivered at last — a recording Landon pulls out of Limbo and plays for Hope on a conjured screen. It is the last line of the franchise, and it is aimed squarely at anyone who watched all 331 episodes.
