Witches & Magic · Era VII, The Legacies
The Merge
The Gemini tradition, aimed at two teenagers: at twenty-two, Josie and Lizzie must merge, and one of them will die. Alaric spends four seasons trying to break a rule written by a coven that no longer exists. In the end nobody breaks it: Hope kills Lizzie with her humanity off, Lizzie transitions into a vampire, and a vampire is not eligible to merge.
Details
- The coven is dead. The rule is not. Legacies is at its best when it is about inherited obligations nobody alive agreed to.
- Every Gemini merge on record: Kai and Jo (never completed), then Kai and Luke, who takes his sister's place and loses.
- Alaric's four-season project to break the tradition fails. What ends it is an accident: Hope, humanity off, kills Lizzie, and Lizzie comes back a vampire. Vampires cannot merge.
