Vampires · Era II, The Mikaelsons
The Immortality Spell
Esther's working, cast on her husband and five surviving children — not on herself; she remained a witch. The ingredients: the white oak's life, the sun, Tatia's doppelgänger blood in the wine, and Mikael running each of them through with a sword. They woke wanting blood. Ayana refused to take part. Esther did it anyway.
Details
- She meant it as protection. What she produced was a species with no natural predator and an emotional range turned up to a level nobody can survive sober.
- Esther spends the rest of the story — including two separate returns from death — trying to undo it.
- Ayana warned that the spirits would not stand for it. Esther cast anyway, using Ayana's own talisman.
- Mikael drove a sword through each of his children to complete the transition, then forced them to feed. Finn never forgave any of it and spent his immortality wanting to die.
- The spell was intended as protection from the wolves. Its real effect was to invent an entire species with no predator, no off switch and a thousand years of family arguments.
